Sony unveiled their new mid-range Android smartphone earlier today. An evolve from the popular mid-range Xperia M2, the newly launched waterproof smartphone is known as Xperia M2 Aqua. What they did was making the popular M2 waterproof, which worked well, kinda.
The Aqua has basically the same specifications as the non-aqua M2. The only upgrade is that they sealed the phone to allow it to take a swim with you. M2 Aqua is powered by a Snapdragon 400 Quad-core 1.2Ghz with Adreno 305 GPU. As for the memory space, you will get an 8GB ROM and only 1GB of RAM. I would like to stress here that 1GB of RAM is currently considered low for today’s usage. If they were to upgrade the RAM to at least 1.5GB, it would make a world of difference in performance. I’ve used a phone that has the 1.5GB of RAM before and I can tell you that the 512MB difference is heck of a lot to go by. Too bad they opt to maintain the RAM as the normal M2.
On the positive side, this phone comes with LTE connectivity for fast internet connection. The screen is at 4.8-inch with 540 x 960 resolution but the display is QHD.
When it comes to snapping pictures, wherever you are, Xperia M2 Aqua will excel. It combines an 8MP camera with Sony technologies like Exmor RS for mobile image sensor, HDR imaging, SteadyShot for video, Xperia camera apps and a dedicated camera button to help you capture the perfect shot every time, whether that’s above or below the water.
– Sony Press Release
At least this mid-range swimmer comes equipped with a good set of camera. That is something you can consider if you’re thinking of getting an all-weather resistant Android phone. Price for the new M2 Aqua is still unknown here in Malaysia. I would assume that it will be between RM800-RM1000 for the time being. Will update on the price once it is made available in Malaysian market.
What do you think of this new one from Sony? Leave a comment. Cheers.
