Xiaomi is growing big here in Malaysia. They don’t even flinch when OnePlus One is making their way to Malaysia officially next month. Why? Because Xiaomi’s fan based community network is huge. They can even managed to sell out their devices in their online store within a matter of seconds. Xiaomi is the new Samsung in Malaysia.
One of the ways that they managed to capture the local market is not by having massive marketing and advertisement budget. But instead Xiaomi chose to create a phone with very reliable hardware that goes well with their customized MIUI Android OS. And most importantly, selling it very cheap.
Yesterday a friend of mine handed me a brand new Xiaomi RedMi (Hongmi) 1S for me to play with. I know that this phone has been around for quite some time but because it’s an entry level phone, consumers tend to turn their focus towards the bigger RedMi Note as their gadget of choice. I know how Malaysians think. In their heads they will be thinking like, “Instead of getting this one, we just add a hundred ringgit more and we can get the bigger and better RedMi Note”. Hence why the RedMi 1S is not as popular as its big brother. The difference in specifications also plays a huge difference in making the decisions for that purchase as well.
But don’t let this entry level phone fool you…and that’s what I’m here for. I’m here to give you the full review of this beautifully designed Xiaomi ‘baby’.
Basic Specifications:
- CPU – Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, Quad-core 1.6GHz
- GPU – Adreno 305
- Memory – 8GB of space with up to 64GB external memory, 1GB of RAM
- Display – 4.7″ 1280 x 768 IPS display
- Camera – 8MP with f/2.2 rear camera and 1.6MP front camera
My first expression upon gazing on this phone as soon as I opened the box was…”Whoaa! I never knew it’s gonna look this good”. And because of that, I am more than excited to carry on with the full review. That will be coming up in about a week from now.
Do check back at this site for a full review of the RedMi 1S next week. Thank you for your visit.
