Note: D’Wok Cafe has closed down.
I always have problems finding a good and cheap place to eat any time of the day. May it be lunch or for dinner, deciding where to eat is everyone’s dilemma. Don’t deny it. It happens to you too. And then you will be asking your friend or spouse who is with you the same question again and again, “Eh…wanna makan where ah?”
Now let me narrow down your search criteria a little bit, especially when you’re around Sunway, PJ or Subang Jaya area. I came across this little restaurant/cafe in Sunway Mentari recently and the type of foods they serve are simple, cheap and delicious. But their main attraction is the Nasi Kak Wok, a famous rice dish with kuah gulai ayam and fried chicken. That’s it. Simple enough? Yes.
D’Wok Cafe in Sunway Mentari opened sometime in March 2016. First, let me tell you this. I’m a fan of Nasi Kak Wok especially the one in TTDI Shah Alam. The methods and what they serve is similar. But the one in TTDI Shah Alam is too packed and usually everything will finish around 3pm. And since I live in Sunway, it is too far for me to travel (ini kes malas la ni). And thank God I found a similar one in Sunway itself!
Okay, the first few times I went to D’Wok Cafe, the kuah gulai ayam was a little bit bland. There was no “oomph” to it. It lacks the “lemakness” of the gulai. I actually don’t know if it’s gulai or kari but it doesn’t taste like any of those. Anyway, after a few weeks and months, they have improved the taste and now they finally found the right combo kick right in your…yeah. I like it. A lot.
The gulai or kari that they poured on the rice is very tasty. And the small bits of fried chicken is fried in the most simplest way and compliments the gravy. The portion is just enough for one person but if you’re a big eater, you can ask for additional rice and gravy. Or better yet, order another serving. The sambal belacan is also not bad. I would usually ask for extra gravy, so mine will be a little bit “banjir”.
Here’s a little bit of comment that I have on the Nasi Kak Wok set. If only they would add pieces of chicken from the gravy into the rice set, it would be awesome! Just like the one in TTDI Shah Alam where you’ll get two versions of chicken pieces, fried and gulai.
They do have other things on the menu like the Nasi Ayam Kampung set, which I have yet to try. Also some other fried stuffs. But like I said, I only go there for the Nasi Kak Wok which I think is very nice and simple. Oh…and cheap too. Only RM5 for one Nasi Kak Wok, as per the serving you see in the picture above.
Now if you’re already drooling and wish to savour this Nasi Kak Wok, you can head over to Sunway Mentari. If you know where Restoran Murni is, then it’s easy for you. D’Wok Cafe is located right opposite of Restoran Murni in Sunway Mentari. Also, head over to their Facebook Page to know more or to see more photos that they have. I’ll give you the address too.
