Techninier Sdn Bhd, a leading mobile social gaming and eSports platform provider, has ended the Axiata Game Hero Grand Championship on a high note as 48 players from Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Cambodia competed in a 2-day grand finale held on 21st and 22nd December at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in conjunction with Comic Fiesta 2019.
Teams of four played in the mobile battle royale game titled “Garena Free Fire”, that was developed and published by Garena and licensed by Axiata’s partner and homegrown Malaysian mobile gaming company Techninier Sdn Bhd.
Preliminary rounds for the tournaments were held earlier from May till the 31st of October and the top three squads from each participating country were then flown all the way to Kuala Lumpur for the Grand Championship to win a share of the RM500,000 in prize money.
After several rounds of live matches, RRQ Hades from Indonesia emerged victorious among 12 participating squads which lets them bring home a grand cash prize of RM65,000. Techninier CEO Dato’ Lion Peh and Axiata group strategy and marketing division Assistant VP Aravin Kumar presented the cash prizes to the winning squads.
According to the new market research report, the eSports market is expected to be worth USD 926.3 million in 2018 and is expected to reach USD 2,174.8 million by 2023. The market for online games is growing at a healthy pace and increasing popularity of video games is expected to drive the eSports market. Axiata and Techniner have invested more than RM6 million to support and encourage the development of youths to become eSports professionals across Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Bangladesh.
