The Covid-19 pandemic and the Movement Control Order (MCO) has not only created uncertainties but has led to tough times in Malaysia’s economic and employment sphere.

Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) is projected to contract by 0.1 per cent to 4.6 per cent this year amid negative impact brought by the pandemic, according to the World Bank.

The impact on Malaysia’ economy was likely to be large looking due to Covid-19’s adverse impact on foreign direct investment, commodities and tourism as well as domestic shocks from the MCO.

In tandem with the nation’s dip in its economic performance, Malaysia’s unemployment rate is also expected to shoot up to 4 per cent this year, from 3.3 per cent in 2019, said Bank Negara Malaysia.

Labour market conditions, in general, are expected to be weak this year, affected by the pandemic said the Central Bank.

With such uncertainties not only existing employees and employers are left to make some tough choices but also graduates entering the job market.

With the MCO and pandemic, new normal practices such as social distancing practices among others have also emerged.

To address these new social development’s, which also includes prioritizing safety and health, Talenbank (Mover & Shaker of Employability for the Nation) has come up with the Talentbank Digital Career Festival taking place in the digital world.

The digital career fest which will kick-off on May 4th, will go on until June 30th and will go on around the clock, until end of June.

Talenbank is here to assist the nation's unemployability rate. This, as employers would revert back to hiring during the post-MCO and post Covid-19 period.

Over 100 Best Employer Brands will be taking part in the near two months virtual career fair and are making available employment and opportunities in Computing & IT (Tech); Sales/Business Development; Banking; Marketing; Business Management; Engineering; Accounting & Finance as well as many other areas.

Ben Ho, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Talentbank

Ben Ho, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Talentbank said the virtual career fest is not the first of its kind but acknowledged that it had been improvised by Talentbank to fulfill the market needs.

“We are not the 1st in Malaysia but Most Comprehensive” he said.

He adds despite there being no physical, it does not pose a problem, rather the solution is that it now can take place virtually, without the need of physical presence or face to face contact.

The virtual career fest also ensures that health and safety as well as social distancing which has become the new norm is adhered.

“No physical career fair, no problem” he adds.

Ho said Talenbank is here to assist the nation’s unemployability rate. This, as employers would revert back to hiring during the post-MCO and post Covid-19 period. This platform is also entirely free for Employers & Candidates.
