Recently we have seen many foldable phones by some of the major tech companies in the World. I have reviewed a few of Samsung’s best in foldable phones such as the Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Flip. I love them both. But new we are entering the era of rollable smartphone display, and we are seeing the beginning of it from Oppo.
Oppo X 2021 is officially the first ever smartphone in the world that comes with an expandable main display, and it looks amazing. The Oppo X 2021 is using a flexible display that rolls out from one side as a motorized function, no manual pulling or pushing required. This innovation is a step forward towards a futuristic Star Trek like era, and I’m really looking forward to that.

The flexible OLED-display that takes a normal large Oppo X 2021 phone at 6.7-inches, and opens to expand the display out to a 7.4-inch display with a much wider aspect ratio. Similar to the Galaxy Fold2 but with that, you will have to unfold the device to reveal the large display. But what about expanding the current display? Read on.
Oppo detailed its technologies and mechanical features to ensure the display is supported as it rolls out, and a caterpillar track-like resistance as the display extends or retracts. So the motorized module is carefully created to ensure the movement is smooth and sturdy.
Oppo claims there’s no crease on the screen at all, as you might see along the folded line in current foldable phones. But I am unsure if they have included any protective glass or if it’s made out of plastic like the ones on the Galaxy Fold.
Nevertheless, the display looks awesome as how it is demonstrated here in a video that was uploaded to Weibo during a tech event somewhere in China.
And the damn thing actually looks awesome!

I am sure you would want the new Oppo X 2021 by the time it launches. Now imagine having a normal sized phone (big is the new normal anyway), and it still able to expand to a tablet size whenever you want it. Now that is some futuristic tech stuff.
No apparent confirmation whether the Oppo X 2021 will be commercially available just yet. And the ones we are seeing above is probably a prototype. But whatever it is, the future of a rollable phone is very near. And I’m looking forward to that.
