Those who are always on the move commuting on public transportations will always have their ears plugged in with an earphone or in some cases, a large sized headphones. I know because I used to be one of those people. And I must have music in my ear whenever I commute to and from work.
First of all, I would like to say a big thank you to KConnection Technology Sdn Bhd for giving me the opportunity to review the new Tronsmart Onyx Ace True Wireless Bluetooth earphone.
I received the earphone about 4 weeks ago and I have been using it almost on daily basis. I enjoy many types of music from R&B to Jazz and sometimes electro and new age music. So now I wonder how the Tronsmart Onyx Ace would sound like when it’s hitting the hard bass and the overall sound clarity.
First Impressions and Usage
The Tronsmart Onyx Ace comes in a simple box that displays a photo of the earphone and its case right in front. Opening the box, I immediately see the two sides of the earphone and its docking case right below it.

As I picked up the earphone, I am surprised at how light it is. And the docking case is also just as light but yet it feels sturdy. There are four indicator LED lights right in front of the case. It will blink from the bottom up as it is being charged while it will also indicates that it is charging the earphones when the top and bottom LED light is lid up.

Pairing the Tronsmart Onyx Ace earphone to my phone is very easy. Simply look for the Onyx Ace name and hit the pair button. And you’re done.
Changing the volume is also pretty easy. On each of the earphones, there is a small metal place located near the top of the earphone. You simply have to touch it to adjust the sound volume. Touch the right earphone to increase the sound, touch the left earphone to decrease the volume. Double tapping will pause and play the music while long pressing the right or left earphone will play the next and previous song respectively.

I do feel that the earphones are a little too small to fit in my ears. It is not the full in-ear type of earphone design but instead it is the semi in-ear type. Although it only sits halfway inside my ear, it is still not that easy to fall off. But it being a slightly bigger fit may be better for me. That’s just my opinion.
Also to note that the semi in-ear type of design is made in such a way that it is much more safer to use because it doesn’t eliminate the surrounding sounds like a moving car while you’re walking on the streets. You can at least able to hear what’s going on around you. Which is in a way, a good thing.
As I said earlier, the Tronsmart Onyx Ace feels really light. I don’t actually feel that it is in my ear. Most of the times I would simply forget that I have both of them in my ears. And one thing I like about this is that it last a very long time on a single charge. In all the 4 weeks I’ve this earphone, I only charge the docking case once. Just once.

Also it’s good to note that the charging port is using the new USB type-C, which is fast and more reliable.
On paper, the Tronsmart Onyx Ace is said to last a whole 5 hours of continuous audio playback while the docking case can last up to 24 hours on a single charge. I assume that is when we put both the earphones and the case on full use.
That is all thanks to its True Qualcomm aptX Audio chipset, the very same chipset maker for the best SoC on smartphones today like the Snapdragon 800 series. The Qualcomm aptX uses very low power, thus giving the Onyx Ace a more efficient power consumption.
The genuine integrated Qualcomm chip provides the most stable connection, delivering exceptional performance with consistent audio streaming. This is true in my opinion. The connection is quick. It paired with my phone as soon as I took it out from the docking case.
The low latency is a big bonus when it comes to watching videos from YouTube. Unlike the older Bluetooth earphones that is usually out of sync between the audio and video, the Tronsmart Onyx Ace syncs accurately. So there is no sound delay when watching any videos.
As for gaming, there is a slight audio delay. I usually play PUBG Mobile on my phone. Even when I use the latest and best smartphone that pairs with the Tronsmart Onyx Ace, there tend to be a slight delay with the audio sync. Like when I hit the fire button, the sound from the shots can only be heard between 0.3 to 0.5 seconds later. Yes it is faster than my old Bluetooth earphone which delays a whole second, but it is still rather annoying.
Sound Quality
But how does the overall sound quality is like? The True Qualcomm aptX audio technology works with the enlarged 13mm driver to deliver hi-fidelity studio quality sound that’s clear and bassy.

When I listen to my favourite music genre, I always focus on the overall sound balance between the highs and the lows. The bass has to be punchy but not too hard that it overshadows the highs. As for hearing the high tunes, is has to be clear without any “hisses” in the background especially when hearing the vocals.
That is my preferred quality audio preferences.
Now for the Tronsmart Onyx Ace earphone, I would say that it almost hit all the right notes, probably about 90% of what I’m expecting coming from a small and light wireless earphone. I know a few bigger wired earphones that are from a famous audio maker that only hit about 85% from my audio preferences. So I think the Tronsmart Onyx Ace performed above my expectations when it comes to sound quality.

While it is true that I have heard better sound quality from the other bigger brands out there, it is a surprise for me to hear a very similar sound quality from this earphone. The bass is punchy where it’s needed without being too harsh. Best of all, it doesn’t even break even at high volume. And the clarity from the “tweeter” or rather high notes is great. When it goes too much, you can hear that “hiss” sound. None of that with the Tronsmart Onyx Ace.
So with all that positive points, I listen to my favourite music on the Onyx Ace almost everyday. I would listen with it when I work, when I chill and even when I drive. One reason is because I love the overall sound quality. And another reason is for easy hands-free calls.
Speaking of which, the sound clarity when using the Onyx Ace as a hands-free device for calls is also good. Latency is very low. Audio syncs really quick. And I don’t need to speak loudly during calls.
The quad-microphone works with Environment Noise Cancellation technology to ensure crystal clear calls by identifying my voice intelligently and filter out the background noise. It guarantees that you will get a clear and loud call quality even in a noisy environment.
I can even whisper, and the person I’m talking to can still hear me. If only the latency for gaming is fixed, it would be great. I would imagine a tangle free gaming nights with my friends along with superb audio quality.
Conclusion
What else can I say about the Tronsmart Onyx Ace True Wireless Bluetooth earphone? It is a very light wireless earphone. It produces good quality audio sound while still able to conserve enough power to last up to 5 hours of continuous use. With an addition of the Qualcomm aptX audio technology, it delivers hi-fidelity studio quality sound that’s crystal clear with highly enjoyable bass.

I have always been an audiophile. But not a really hardcore audio enthusiast to know more than I should. At least I am not tone deaf. I can tell the highs, the mids and the lows, and where each sound should hit. I know the balance for good quality music. I know when something is off in the sound clarity. With that being said, I know when an audio product is worth the purchase or otherwise.

Would I recommend the Tronsmart Onyx Ace to friends and people that asked me about it? My answer is yes. If you’re looking for an excellent wireless earphone, you’re gonna love this one. It is also much more affordable compared to some of the famous ones out there. And at that price point, you will greatly appreciate the cost savings for a good wireless earphone.
You can purchase a brand new Tronsmart Onyx Ace True Wireless Bluetooth earphone at their official Shopee marketplace for only RM299.00. The price is just right for what it can deliver. But in my opinion, it delivers much more than I expected.
And that is a good thing.
