We often read reviews about display monitors that do not give a first-hand user experience especially from a layman’s point of view. Not to say that I’m that layman, but I usually come across display reviews that are way too technical for normal people to grasp the knowledge.

This is where I come in. I started writing this review with all the technical data on the screen resolution, colour gamut, HDR, contrast, screen ratio and other mumbo jumbos. And then I took a moment, sat back and said – screw it, I’m going to review this awesome ASUS ProArt PA279CV display from a layman’s point of view. I will only give the basic tech data but more towards what this display is all about from my own daily experience.

Design and Build Quality

I received the ASUS ProArt PA279CV display a few weeks ago and I immediately hooked it up to my home desktop PC. The box that it came in has all the details of the specs. And at 27” in screen size, the overall weight of the ProArt display is not that heavy. The built quality is top notch. It looks and feels premium. The back panel is easy to assemble. It may look flimsy but it is actually very sturdy. I’m proud to say that the full assembly took me less than 10 minutes.

After assembling and attaching the ASUS ProArt PA279CV display to my desktop, I noticed that I am able to rotate the display from landscape to portrait mode. I honestly didn’t notice this at first but when I did, I was ecstatic. It’s fun to have a cool display monitor like this for once.

First of all, the display looks good. Ergonomically it looks sleek and modern. This display will appeal to graphic designers and gamers alike. It is so easy to turn the display left to right on its sturdy swivel and more easily to raise it up and down when needed. I can safely say, it is well designed and focused on user friendliness.

Rotating the display from landscape to portrait is easy, but must be done carefully. First, you have to raise the display upwards and then rotate it clockwise or counter-clockwise, entirely up to you. You can have it rotate either way but I rotated the display I’m using counter-clockwise. If you don’t raise up the display first, the display corner will graze the base stand of the display and leave an unwanted scratch mark.

On the front, there are 4 buttons on the bottom right side of the display for the basic setting adjustments. Once you’re in the settings, it is easy to navigate around to make your brightness adjustments and other standard display monitor setup. Just press the button according to the corresponding function shown on the display. You can’t go wrong with this.

If you look closely at the bottom of the display, you can see a measurement line. I honestly don’t know what this is for. Anyone care to give your thoughts in the comments?

The ASUS ProArt PA279CV display is quite thin at 5.2cm thickness. Not the thinnest but it is thin enough for you to mount it on a wall or use a VESA mount on it. The borders around the edges are quite narrow, almost like a full screen display. I appreciate it being thin and narrow. However, if you plan to place another ASUS ProArt PA279CV next to it as a dual display, it may not be as seamless.

Around the back, the layout is very clean and organized. There’s even a clip attached to the rear stand for easy cable management.

User Experience

Turning on the ASUS ProArt PA279CV display for the first time is like euphoria to me. I do expect the display to be awesome to look at but I never thought it would be this good, in my own opinion.

The first thing I noticed as I turned the display on is how bright the screen is. It is so bright that it lid up my entire room. I love the colour depth when I boot up my desktop into Windows 10, showing my desktop wallpaper in its full resolution glory. Good to note that the HDR features worked well here. But I also noticed that my desktop icons are rather tiny.

Then it occurs to me that the display is showing at its highest resolution, which is 4K. But since I’m using the ASUS ProArt PA279CV as a secondary display, I have to reduce the screen resolution down to 1080p in order to match my main current display. Else it would look weird to have two monitors side-by-side with different resolutions.

But having it able to bump up to 4K means I can use the monitor to edit photos or videos without having to worry about the lack of onscreen space. That may take a toll on my “old” desktop PC but any of you who has a high-end latest machine, would love this monitor.

Okay, this layman review is going with a little technical fact on the data.

The ASUS ProArt PA279CV supports 4K UHD HDR-10 resolution with 100% Adobe RGB for crucial color accuracy projects. 10-Bit display colors with factory pre-calibration ensure true-to-life color accuracy (deltae<2).

When I said full 4K display, I do mean 3840 x 2160 panel resolution to give you four times the pixel density and up to 300% more onscreen space than similarly-sized Full HD displays. This means you get to enjoy sharp, detailed visuals. On top of that, more onscreen space for multitasking so you get more things done quickly. I can have a few windows open and stacked side-by-side for easy multitasking. This is something fun to work with.

The ProArt display delivers industry-standard 100% sRGB/100% Rec. 709 and supports DCI-P3 color gamut for rich, vivid reproduction that ensures every detail of your photos is clear and lifelike.

Color professionals rely on color-accurate displays to ensure that their creations look exactly as intended. The ASUS ProArt Display PA279CV is factory calibrated and Calman Verified to guarantee industry-leading color accuracy. Every ProArt display undergoes stringent, meticulous testing to ensure smoother color gradation.

Professional designers, video editors and photographers will love this ASUS ProArt PA279CV display as much as I do. I did a lot of designing work as well as photography editing with this display and I can say that the colours are great. The accuracy is on point. The bright screen helped in getting the right tone and clarity.

Another thing that I love about this ASUS ProArt PA279CV display is that I can turn it into a USB hub. That’s right. It also comes with multiple USB ports right behind and on the side of the screen. It first connects to your PC or laptop via a USB-C connection after which, will turn the ASUS ProArt PA279CV display into a USB hub. This is very useful when you have multiple peripherals connected to your PC.

Conclusion

This is by far the best PC display I have ever tested. Not only does it perform well, it’s also very versatile on how you want to use it. Put it on standard landscape mode for your daily routines and create colour accurate stunning designs. The high 3840 x 2160 screen resolution is a designer’s dream. Video editing would also be fun.

And then you can put it in portrait mode if you want something different. This is useful when you intend to use the ASUS ProArt PA279CV display as your second monitor. Like c’mon, who would want to use their one and only display in portrait mode, right?

As a second monitor, you can use it to keep up with chats that are coming in especially if you’re a streamer. You can easily monitor your Discord chats or channels while in portrait mode. Also if you’re doing some lengthy reading or writing up an article, like what I’m doing now. Yes, of course I set up this ASUS ProArt PA279CV as my secondary display. And I love it to bits.

If you’re looking for an affordable display, I would highly recommend the ASUS ProArt PA279CV monitor. You will be pleasantly surprised by the image quality, the 4k resolution and the superb colour accuracy and contrast. Surely you would think that this ASUS ProArt PA279CV is going to cost a bomb, right? But I can assure you, it’s not. I would think that with the price of most flagship phones right now, you can actually buy two of these monitors. So think about it.

So get this if you’re an active gamer, a visual designer, a video maker or an active streamer. It’s okay to get this if you’re a regular PC user or a blogger like me too. All I can say is, the price is right and it is very affordable for something that can last for the next 5 years or more.

You can make your purchase of this stunning ASUS ProArt PA279CV display at the popular marketplaces now for only RM2,188.00. Told you it’s affordable!
