Finally, the new OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G has been launched here in Malaysia with the hopes of being the best option for photography enthusiasts. I for one have been looking forward to fully test and review the new OPPO Find X5 Pro and its photography abilities. The best thing about it is the new MariSilicon X Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for fabulous image processing.
So is it any good? I have the privilege to test and review the what I think is awesome OPPO Find X5 Pro for two weeks and I will go in-depth with what it can do, especially in photography. But it doesn’t stop there. The performance and build is something that I am very impressed with as well. So here’s my full review on the brand new OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G.
First Look at the OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G
The look and feel of the new OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G is nothing less than impressive. That’s just my own opinion. The build itself feels solid. That is probably the meticulous hours being put into creating the shell and back panel from ceramic. It has been shaped and polished for more than 160 hours to give the shine and pristine smoothness.

Premium is what I would describe the overall look and feel of the OPPO Find X5 Pro. First look at it left me speechless except for a single “wow” coming out of my mouth. I have not seen or experienced this kind of craftsmanship on a phone before although I have tested many flagships that cost about the same prior to this.
That, and the high potential camera specifications would already impress me so much without needing to switch on the phone. If you’re into premium smartphones and photography, the OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G may intrigue you into buying one.
The screen is using a 6.7” LTPO2 AMOLED display that produce 1 billion colours with 120Hz refresh rate for give the super smooth interaction when you’re swiping on the screen. It also has a 1800 nits brightness to temporarily blind you on full blast if or when you’re in a dark room. I said this because I forgot about the settings when I switched it on before I went to sleep.

The OPPO Find X5 Pro comes with a 1440×3216 display resolution at 20:9 screen ratio. That means it is slightly taller and slimmer when you’re holding it in your hand. I do like this ratio on a phone because it feels easier to hold and grip on the device. It is also a good view to look at when texting your friends on WhatsApp because you will get more screen estate while the keyboard is located at the lower part of the screen.
The button placements are similar to most of OPPO’s other devices with the volume rocker on the left and the power button on the right. Nothing much at the top other than one of the tiny mic holes and at the bottom, there’s the dual SIM card tray (no memory expansion), the USB-C port and the bottom firing speaker. Take note that the OPPO Find X5 Pro has stereo speakers for better audio experience.

Now, the star of the show is around the back. The beautifully designed camera bump that seamlessly merges with the body is backed by Hasselblad, elevating its standard and promise in quality. And I believe they deliver exactly that. OPPO has been teasing us with what the camera is capable of, especially with the MariSilicon X NPU being present on the OPPO Find X5 Pro.

Is it really that good? We’ll see the photography section later on.
The OPPO Find X5 Pro is also IP68 rated for water and dust resistance. And since the ceramic back feels a tad slippery when you’re holding it in one hand, it may accidentally slip off your hand. So having an IP68 rating and Gorilla Glass Victus as its screen protection, it may be able to save itself from heavy damage.
The Ceramic Black colourway looks great. It has more of a jet black look to it. Looks great when it’s fingerprint free but it’s not really a fingerprint magnet. It will take some serious oily hands to leave heavy fingerprint marks but if your hands are dry and clean, there are hardly any marks left on the surface. Good thing is that you don’t need to clean the surface that often.
UI, UX and Performance
When it comes to flagships, we will be looking at the best of Snapdragon on our device. And our OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G here is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC which delivers stunning performance and fluid user experience. I can say that I am a fan of S8G1 and the OPPO Find X5 Pro is on par with some of the flagships I’ve tested so far.

To support the S8G1 on the device, we also have 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage to play around with. The OPPO Find X5 Pro has RAM expansion capabilities with up to 7GB of additional RAM can be used from the unused storage cluster. This is to ensure you’ll have enough memory for your daily use.
On the software side, the OPPO Find X5 Pro comes with Android 12 installed and managed by ColorOS 12.1. ColorOS is OPPO’s own launcher app to manage all the UI and UX of the device. And OPPO has done well in creating a stable and reliable OS.

As we all have gotten familiar with by now, using Android 12 based devices, we can have more customisation options with the OS such as playing with icon colours as well as overall system colours based on your current wallpaper. It is a cool function to have and the OPPO Find X5 Pro can do all that.
I have been using the OPPO Find X5 Pro for quite some time now and I find it to be a very reliable and useful device. Multitasking is a breeze and it is able to do whatever you throw at it. The 12GB of RAM helps with keeping it running smoothly at all times. And the 5000mAh battery can last me about 2 full days before I have to put it on the charger again. That is including some gaming sessions and full camera use.
And when I’m talking about performance, I would fully test it on my go-to PUBG Mobile game. I had a great time playing the game on the OPPO Find X5 Pro. The fluidity of the gameplay is so smooth that I tend to get a little dizzy. Yes, getting dizzy because it’s too smooth. Sounds weird but it’s true. The high refresh rate and the smooth movements made everything feel life-like especially when running or quickly dodging enemy engagements. I love it, but at the same time I don’t. But the bottomline is, graphics for heavy 3D gaming is superb on the OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G.

Speaking of performance, I also did a quick test on the Antutu 3D benchmark just to see how well it scored. I managed to get a score of 839648 on the first try and a few hours later, I put it on the benchmark again. It scored 804610 the second time. I was expecting it to be more but it scored lower than I anticipated. Nevertheless, the overall performance has been remarkable.
Camera
Everything you want to know about the OPPO Find X5 Pro is here. It is all about the camera system and what MariSilicon X NPU + Hasselblad is all about. First, let’s recap on the camera specifications.
Main camera:
- 50 MP, f/1.7, 25mm (wide), 1/1.56″, 1.0µm, multi-directional PDAF, OIS (3-axis sensor-shift, 2-axis lens-shift)
- 13 MP, f/2.4, 52mm (telephoto), 1/3.4″, 2x optical zoom, PDAF
- 50 MP, f/2.2, 15mm, 110˚ (ultrawide), 1/1.56″, 1.0µm, multi-directional PDAF
- Video: 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/240fps; gyro-EIS; HDR, 10‑bit video
Selfie Camera:
- 32 MP, f/2.4, 21mm (wide), 1/2.74″, 0.8µm
- Video: 1080p@30fps, gyro-EIS

The main camera does extremely well in outdoor shots and for portrait shots. I never fail to impress myself with solid clarity and high quality images. Most of the photos taken with the main camera are above average and went beyond my expectations. I am not trying to “sell” the camera system here but it’s the truth. I experienced one of the best smartphone photography abilities on the OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G.
Colours are accurate, true to the natural look of a subject with great colour balance and exposure. During my time reviewing the OPPO Find X5 Pro, I have taken tons of outdoor and landscape shots along with night photography. As for portraits, it also managed to capture tons of instagrammable photos. There’s nothing much that you have to do. Just open up the camera app and snap away. You can also opt to use the predefined settings and modes in the camera app if you wish to.
With the telephoto camera, it managed to capture some good details while zooming in on a subject. Your photos won’t turn up blurry or pixelated. Although I don’t use it much, I am happy with the results.
I like shooting with an ultra wide angle camera. This is best when taking landscape photography. And best if you’re taking it outdoors when it’s bright and sunny. Colours are punchier with the ultra wide camera. Details are good and there’s no signs of warping around the edge of the photo. That also means the camera app’s post-processing did a great job in producing great photos.
All in all, I feel that OPPO’s partnership with Hasselblad for the colour calibration is totally worth it. Again, the colours are accurate without me needing to edit the white balance or colour balance settings. I am so pleased with what the camera is capable of and if you’re into photography, this is the phone you should get.
And what we all have been hearing about the night photography abilities of the OPPO Find X5 Pro is sort of true. It has the potential to shoot beautiful “nightography” shots during my full test. All you have to do is switch on the night mode from the camera settings and you’re good to go. It is best that you use a tripod for this and I must’ve misplaced mine when I went for the test. Now I may need to buy another one. Bummer.
The question now lies to whether it can compete with other flagship smartphone brands that have been producing awesome devices with awesome camera setups out there. I will let you decide with my photo samples taken with the OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G below:

Conclusion
The OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G is one heck of a camera, I mean, phone. It is a phone but with a great camera to compliment it. Truth is, everyone wants a good camera on their phones nowadays. That will be the first thing they will ask when purchasing an upgrade. Do tell if I’m wrong.
But the price tag may not be for everyone though. After all, it is a flagship smartphone. And it comes with all the premium bells and whistles. Not to mention the brand name it carries along such as Hasselblad. And we photographers know what and how much a real Hasselblad camera costs. So in order to uphold the brands’ reputation, OPPO has to up their game in the camera department.
And they did it with the addition of MariSilicon X NPU.
All that adds up to an excellent camera setup on a smartphone. Like I said earlier, if you’re a photographer, you will definitely love this phone. You don’t have to carry a large bag or lunge another huge bag only for your lenses anymore. Just one small(er) device to rule them all. It will save you time and space as well.
If you ask me, I would love to have one for myself. I will use it solely for photography, and perhaps for some gaming. But I know it will be more for photography. I absolutely love the colour balance and accuracy. Clarity is excellent too with great details on the subject(s). I do wonder if anyone has ever done a full photography session for modelling or wedding using only a smartphone. If there’s any, I would like them to try and use the new OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G for that. I would love to see the results.
What else can I say about the new OPPO Find X5 Pro 5G? It has top of the line hardware specs, a great camera system, an excellent OS to go with all that and it’s simply gorgeous to look at. It is definitely one of my favourite flagships of 2022.
