If you lived through the late 90s and the early 2000s, you will probably know the brand Creative Labs. They are the makers of the superb audio sound card namely the Sound Blaster series made for PC. Their reputation of being an audio master back then was unmatched. And fast forward to the 2020s, they are back with their own audio innovation to satisfy audiophiles like myself.
I have tested so many earphones, headphones and wireless earbuds over the years. One of my favourites is made by the South Korean tech giant and they have been making great TWS over the years. No doubt, that has been my choice all along. Until now.
Creative Labs Outlier Pro – First Look
I received the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS a few weeks back and so far, I never leave home without it. It doesn’t matter that the battery case is overly sized by today’s standards. There are other brands that create more pocketable cases to store the earbuds. Yes, the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS case is huge. But I don’t care. I will carry the TWS with me wherever I go.
The design of the earbuds are a little big for some users. But once it fits in your ear, it is surprisingly comfortable and non intrusive. Each earbud comes with a 10 mm Graphene-coated Driver that delivers superb audio experience. And each earbud is equipped with 3 microphones for that extra clarity when making phone calls or giving out voice commands on Siri or Google Assistant.
As for the battery life, the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS can last up to 60 hours in total and up to 15 hours of playtime per charge. That is outstanding endurance if you ask me. That long road trip won’t be so boring now. Plus, the battery/case can also be charged wirelessly with a compatible Qi charger. Like I said before, the battery case is bigger than most. You take out the earbuds by sliding the earbuds tray out from the case.
Pairing the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS is easy. Once the earbuds are out of the case, you can immediately find it in the Bluetooth settings on your phone. Be sure to install the Creative App on your phone as well to take the full advantage of the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS. From the app, you can control the ANC and toggle the low latency on or off. You can also adjust the equaliser to suit your preferences.
The Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS produces quality audio that is up to my standards, not that I have very high standards anyway. But I keep my criteria simple. High clarity on the high notes, and strong hard bass on the lows. And the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS excels in both the criterias. It has been a while since I heard hard hitting bass like this other than the time I tested a Bose headphone owned by a cousin of mine. Of course, the best ones come with a high price. The unsung affordable audio devices are the ones who should be in the limelight right now.
Priced at only RM285 at the time of this writing, the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS is not only affordable but also is one of the best I’ve tested so far. So yes, as my title implies – you will get a big boom for your bucks.
Since I’ve been praising it so much, let’s get into the details of the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS.
The Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS comes with some power-packed features. First, we have the ANC, which stands for Active Noise Cancellation. This is the most standard feature you will get for any TWS out there and almost all of them does the same thing – to reduce ambient noise while you’re listening to a song. On the other hand, you can turn the ANC off and have it in Ambient mode so that you can still hear the surrounding sounds, good when you’re walking down a street or in the office.
It supports Bluetooth 5.2 for a super low latency connection between your phone to the TWS. This made the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS suitable for gaming as well, provided that your source device supports Bluetooth 5.2 as well. I have tested this feature for my usual gaming sessions and I experienced the best sounding gunshots in PUBG Mobile. It made me feel like I’m right there, in the game. The full immersive experience is so good that I refuse to stop playing, until my battery dies.
To take it to a higher level, the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS is Super X-Fi ready. So what is Super X-Fi? Super X-Fi uses computational audio to personalise the earphone based on how you hear sound to give you the most optimised and realistic listening experience. It recreates a professional, multi-speaker system experience in the earphones. So with Super X-Fi, you will hear sound naturally as how they are meant to be heard. My listening experience has been elevated to another level. To my surprise, songs that I’ve listened to many times before sounded way better with the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS. The clarity and deep bass is just on point. Metallica’s Enter Sandman will never be the same again. I have heard that song many times over and is my go-to song whenever I review an audio device. And it is just pure awesomeness right there. Hard hitting bass on the drums in the beginning and the clarity of the entire song felt like they were playing right in front of me. It’s that good.
Of course, it is superb when it comes to a wireless earbud. It is the best in its class and price range. If you have the money to splurge, you should be getting a wired headphone and not a wireless earbud. So don’t get your hopes up too high but I can assure you, the Creative Labs Outlier Pro TWS is truly the best sounding wireless earbuds you can have.
