Samsung is known for making great smartphones that come with excellent camera systems. But when it comes to True Wireless Stereo or earbud, the quality remains top notch. I can vouch for this because I have tested many of Samsung’s TWS in the past and my favourite has been the Galaxy Buds Pro which was released in 2021 alongside the Galaxy S21. With the arrival of the upgraded Pro series, I feel that Samsung has done it again with superb design and improvements.
Enter the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro. The upgraded look and feel to it is refreshing. At first glance, it kinda looked like the Galaxy Buds2 because of the more rounded design. But with the matte surface on the case and on the earbuds, it screams premium.
Introduction to the new Galaxy Buds2 Pro
I received the Graphite colourway of the Galaxy Buds2 Pro and since it’s a matte surface type, it looks so good. I absolutely love the premium feel to it. The whole design concept has a touch of premium to it. It even feels premium when opening and closing the battery case. Everything feels great. And I said to myself, this is it. This is probably the best TWS Samsung has ever made. And I’m right on the money.
What you get in the box are the usual user manuals, the USB-C charging cable and the replacement buds in large and small sizes. The one that’s already attached to the Galaxy Buds2 Pro is the medium sized one. So to me, medium feels just right. I never had to change the silicone buds on any Galaxy Buds before and I don’t think I need to change on this one anyway. It fits like a glove with room for comfort.
The case itself looks great. It is the very same case (with different internal layout) as the other Buds before this. And it supports wireless charging as well. Thumbs up for that. The pebble look of the case has been Samsung’s signature since their first TWS and the design hasn’t changed since. Nevertheless, I hope they don’t change it.
The earbuds are designed 15% smaller than the previous Galaxy Buds Pro, thus making it lighter and more aerodynamic in some ways. It has a smoother and more rounded surface that feels so comfortable to wear. When I have both earbuds in my ears, I tend to forget that I have two earbuds stuck inside. It’s light enough to feel like it’s not there but yet I know it’s there. If you know what I mean.
And since I received the new Galaxy Buds2 Pro for review, it hardly left my pocket. It is with me all the time. If I need to listen to an audio quickly, I simply take an earbud out from the case and it will automatically and quickly connect to my phone. In this case, I’m using the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 to pair with the Buds2 Pro.
The connection speed is so fast that I don’t really need to wait for the pairing to be completed. It connected almost instantaneously. A huge advantage when I’m receiving a call while driving or when I need to listen to a private voice message.
Pairing the Galaxy Buds2 Pro is super easy. All I need to do is install the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone, open up the battery case without taking out the earbuds and start pairing from there. Since the Galaxy Z Flip4 already has the Galaxy Wearable app installed, pairing is so much easier. I would advise you to download the app if you’re planning to use the Galaxy Buds2 Pro with other non-Galaxy phones. Trust me, the app helps a lot.
Once you’ve paired the earbud with your phone, all you have to do now is configure how you want it to perform. There are so many options that you can configure from here. It’s good to test your earbud fit from the app first so that you will get the optimum audio experience. Just go crazy in the app settings.
Try a few settings until you’re satisfied. I will always have the “Game Mode” on and I will set the equaliser to “Dynamic”. As for the Active Noise Cancellation, I will always have the ambient sound on. On that note, the ANC works really well. It does block all ambient noise when it’s on.
It also comes with a 360 Audio feature for an excellent surround sound. It is a fun feature to use. It acts as though you’re sitting in a music studio with the band playing in front of you. When you turn your head to the left, the sound will move around with you – in this case it’s like coming from the right side. It improved the head tracking response so this time it feels more realistic.
You will have a huge advantage if you’re using a Galaxy phone with the Galaxy Buds2 Pro. This is because you will get to enjoy the ultimate 24-bit Hi-Fi sound from the source to the Buds. It uses the new Samsung Seamless Codec to minimise the perceptual sound loss during processing to ensure you will get the best audio experience.
The best upgrade of all will be the new two-way drivers. Almost all true wireless earbuds use a single driver in each ear – but with the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, you get a 10mm driver for bass and a 5.3mm driver for treble. This will further enhance the audio quality from the lows to the highs. I truly enjoyed the whole experience with the Buds2 Pro. It is very satisfying.
Audio Test
For my audio test, I will turn up the volume to 100% and listen to Metallica’s Enter Sandman, as usual. The beginning of the song will have a very hard hitting bass followed by everything else. During the drum bass in the beginning, I sat down in a quiet room while anticipating the hard boom from the woofers. The bass is really deep and rock solid at high volume without any distortion.
I was in awe at this point. When the rest of the tunes came in, I got to hear some notes that I didn’t get to hear before. It’s odd because it’s sort of new to me at that point. But I was really pleased with the audio quality.
Hands down that the Galaxy Buds2 Pro is Samsung’s best TWS yet. I have admired the first Buds Pro before this and now it just got way better. The next song I played is Man on the Moon by Alan Walker + Benjamin Ingrosso. It is the kind of music that will take me to a different place and time whenever I listen to it. And the bass is good in this song, so are the high notes by the treble. The Galaxy Buds2 Pro performed so well that I will only listen to this song with it from now on. Audio clarity is on point and well balanced. It’s just that good.
Luckily, I am evaluating this TWS from within its own class. I know how the best sound quality really sounds like with higher-end wired headphones made by the true audio makers. Those are in a class of their own. For a flagship wireless earbud, I will place Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro in the top 3 of my list. And it’s a very long list.
It is hard for me to decide which ones that I like most because at a certain point, I feel that the Galaxy Buds2 Pro is the best. On another certain point, it is just barely there. But it is certain right now that the Galaxy Buds2 Pro is my new go-to wireless earbud.
The fact that it supports the new Bluetooth 5.3 for a super fast low latency connection to a phone played a big role as to why it’s my go-to TWS. I play games a lot. Especially PUBG Mobile. I can’t remember the last time I used a wired earphone. Ever since I’ve been testing many TWS in recent times, I have not used the wired ones.
Anyway, using the Galaxy Buds2 Pro during my mobile gaming sessions proved to be more than great. So far, it has the lowest latency when it comes to gaming, in my opinion. It gives almost zero lag and the audio quality is incredible. Love it!
On full charge, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro can last me about 5 hours with the ANC turned on while the battery case can last me up to a whole week before I have to charge it up again. I know it can last much longer than that but having the volume up to 100% almost all the time with ANC on, took a toll on its overall endurance. Charging up the battery case using the provided USB-C cable will be faster. But I prefer to use the wireless charging feature instead. Nevertheless, I am happy with the overall performance.
Conclusion
I have tested so many true wireless earbuds before this. I thought I had found the best, but now I have found something better. I’m sure there will be other better ones than this but right now, this is the best for me.
The audio quality and clarity is superb. The bass tears me up with its awesomeness. The design made it look premium but yet it’s so simple. I have to admit, it sounds better than the more popular fruited brand pods, if you know which one it is. The call quality is equally good. It feels like you’re talking to a person standing right in-front of you while that other person can hear you loud and clear, even when you’re standing in the middle of the loud traffic.
I don’t want to go any further. Hands down, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro is the best wireless earbud I’ve tried so far. And I truly want you to experience the same thing I did. You can make the purchase at Samsung’s official store right now for RM899. They are on promotion right now so you might get some free gifts as well.
