First of all, a big thank you to OPPO Malaysia for providing me with the review unit. I had the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ with me for about two weeks and the very first time I took it out of the box, I know that this will be a very sellable device. The design and overall feel to it is top notch. I personally love the camera setup at the back. It is simple, yet I know there is a photography monster lurking inside.
I use the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ as my daily driver. I use it for messaging, for social media, going live on TikTok and also did a little bit of gaming. The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is a very capable device that can power through any tasks you throw at it while keeping everything smooth. It is probably one of the best Android phone choices to get in 2023.
So let’s go through it one by one.
First Look and Design
As I said earlier, the design is something that I feel positively about. It has a thin and narrow body so it feels taller and slender. The rounded edges made it feel premium with a slight curve around the sides, both the display and from the back of the body as well.
The volume rocker and the power button sits on the right side of the phone that feels sturdy, eliminating the possibility of accidental press while I have it in my pocket. At the bottom, there’s the USB-C port for data and charging, a bottom firing speaker and the SIM tray.
At the top, there’s a second speaker firing upwards, making the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ to have a stereo speaker setup. Next to the top speaker, there is an infrared blaster. This means that you can use the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ as a remote control device for your IR devices such as TV and your home air-conditioner. Definitely a cool feature to have.
The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ comes with a super clear borderless AMOLED display with 2772×1240 screen resolution with up to 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1400 nits peak brightness. To make the visuals look a little more stunning, OPPO came up with a fresh innovation called ProXDR Smart Display Control to enhance the dynamic range to HDR photos and videos making it look brighter and more realistic.
As for the front facing 32MP selfie camera, it sits right in the middle at the top of the display. It comes with autofocus so you will always get clear and sharp selfie shots. It even comes with three basic zoom options on the front camera from 0.8x -> 1x -> 2x. But if you’re looking for better portrait shots, you should be using the rear main camera instead.
Now, the rear camera is something else. I love how the oblong camera bump is made with all three main cameras sitting inside. There is a main 50MP main camera with a new IMX890 sensor and OIS for super steady shots and good night mode shots. Second camera is OPPO’s new 64MP telephoto portrait camera for a much better portrait quality. And the third camera is an ultra wide angle camera for you to fit in more people in your group photo. I will talk more on the camera later on.
Having said all that, I really love the design and colour of the new OPPO Reno10 Pro+ line-up. The unit that I received for testing is called Silvery Grey which in my opinion, looks elegant. If you’re someone who’s into bright and vibrant colour, you can choose the Glossy Purple colourway that looks modern and stylish. Both look good and both are equally pleasing to the eyes.
You wil also get a silicone case in the box that matches the device’s colour. Why can’t all phone brands provide with this kind of case right in the box instead of the usual clear silicone case? The clear ones are so yesterday.
Performance and Daily Usage
The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is great as a daily driver. And its capabilities to perform on demand is great too. The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ comes with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC which is more than capable of handling anything you throw at it. It is also supported by 12GB of RAM with up to 12GB of RAM expansion. That can total up to 24GB of RAM! So if you think the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is going to slow you down, just add another 12GB of RAM and stop complaining.
With all that power, you will need a good source of that power. The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ comes with a 4700mAh battery that can last you the whole day and more. During my test, the device is able to go from full 100% for more than 24 hours and I still have about 30% of battery left the next day. Keep in mind that I use the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ as my daily driver which includes frequent texting, social media, photography and video editing for my TikTok.
And to charge it up quickly, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ comes with a 100W charging brick with SuperVOOC Flash Charge technology that can go up to 100% within 27 minutes. That is crazy fast. And it is said that it comes with 4 years of battery durability, thanks to the OPPO Battery Health Engine that keeps the battery at its optimum condition, all the time.
Multitasking on the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is a breeze too. I can have multiple apps running in the background and it can still plough through without any sign of slowing down. The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ really shows its true potential when it’s multitasking. Most of us would usually swipe off an app from the multitasking window but I left everything open and not swipe off anything since I first started using the device.
As for the operating system, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is powered by Android 13 based on OPPO’s own ColorOS 13. It is a very stable OS to use and there are many customisation options available. ColorOS is one of my favourite launchers to use on an Android device.
Another one of my favourite features on the new OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is the IR blaster. With it, I can use it to replace some of my remote controls at home such as the TV, speaker system, air conditioner and even Astro (the old one). With a touch of a button, I can turn on the TV or switch off the AC when it’s cold at night. No more fumbling for the remote control in the dark. It also supports NFC and I can use it to reload my NFC enabled Touch n Go card. Too bad it doesn’t come with wireless charging.
When it comes to gaming, this is where the power prevails. As usual, I will install PUBG Mobile on any review devices so that I can truly test the device. I play this game a lot. I mean, a lot. So I will always find the time to give any device that came my way for reviews and play this game on it. The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is no exception.
The game took less than 30 seconds to start up and I’m all ready to go, after installing all the additional files of course. I am able to set the graphics to the highest settings with full HD and high frame rate. Movements while in the game are very fluid. The touch responses are quick and precise. The Graphics look so good on the AMOLED display and the whole gameplay experience was enjoyable. Thanks to the stereo speaker setup, the audio experience was great too. Overall, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ can be considered as a good gaming device.
Testing the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ on the latest Antutu v10 3D benchmark was exceptional. I was curious whether the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ can break the 1 million points mark on the new Antutu. Guess what? It did better. I was astounded with the result. A total of 1,226,963 points were raked up by the OPPO Reno10 Pro+. That is very impressive to me. Clearly, this device is one mean smartphone.
Need I say more? When it comes to performance and daily usage, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is more than just a pretty device. If you’re looking for an upgrade soon, you should get this.
Camera and Photography
The main selling point for the new OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is the camera capabilities. It is powered by OPPO’s own MariSilicon to process the image and enhance the quality to make it stand out. 99% of the photos I took don’t need any editing, because all of it already looks so good. Before we go any further, let’s recap on the camera specs.
Rear Camera
- 50 MP, f/1.8, 24mm (wide), 1/1.56″, 1.0µm, multi-directional PDAF, OIS
- 64 MP, f/2.5, (periscope telephoto), 1/2″, 0.7µm, PDAF, 3x optical zoom, OIS
- 8 MP, f/2.2, 120˚ (ultrawide), 1/4.0″, 1.12µm
Front selfie camera
- 32 MP, f/2.4, 22mm (wide), 1/2.74″, 0.8µm, AF
Most of my shots are taken with the main 50MP camera. This is an all-rounder camera. Any photos taken by this camera are flawless. It is a point and shoot camera. All I have to do is let the camera do its magic. I won’t say much because I will let the photos do the talking.
Secondly, the 64MP telephoto camera is wonderful when taking portrait shots, hence why they called it “telephoto portrait”. On default, the camera app will use the telephoto camera to shoot portrait shots at 3x zoom, which is the zoom level of the telephoto lens. The bokeh effect is super smooth without making the portrait looking fake. The seamless transition between the subject and the background bokeh is precise and smooth. If you’re an avid photographer, I’m very certain that this will be your go-to setup.
The third camera is an ultra-wide camera. Best use when taking landscape photography such as buildings, sceneries and even group shots. I don’t use this as much but I do enjoy taking some breathtaking landscape shots with it. And the results are great, without any distortions or warping around the edges.
Front selfie camera works just as well. You will even get the same smooth bokeh background when switching to the portrait mode. Clarity is great and the auto-focus is on point. I took lots of selfie portrait shots with this device. And no, I’m not showing all of them here.
So, if you’re looking for a device that can give you satisfaction in photography, you can definitely add the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ to your list. You won’t be disappointed.
Conclusion
The new OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is a versatile device. I honestly love the overall design and colourway. I love the narrow feel and the slim feel to it. It has a matte back panel, so it is not a fingerprint magnet. I also love the vibrant and bright display, especially the ProXDR Smart Display Control feature. With it, photos and videos will appear bright and sharp when you’re viewing it on the display.
I really enjoyed the two weeks I had with it. As I said earlier, I use it as my daily driver for anything and everything. The battery endurance is great. I can leave my house early in the morning at 100% and come back home in the evening with more than 50% of battery left. And with that 50%, I can still continue to use it until the next day. I’m not worried if I ran out of juice because with the 100W SuperVOOC charging capabilities, I can have it back to 100% in half an hour.
So what’s not to like about the new OPPO Reno10 Pro+? It is powerful for gaming, and great for photography. The only qualm that I have is the lack of wireless charging. Other than that, it is a gorgeous beast. Thinking of getting one? OPPO has recently launched the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ so you can now head over to their official website to make the purchase. It is retailing from RM1,799 up to RM3,499, depending on the specifications.
I hope you enjoyed my review.
