First platform to automate toll fare calculation nationwide, improving transparency, efficiency, and the overall ride experience for passengers and partner drivers
Bolt, Europe’s leading mobility platform, has introduced a major enhancement to its ride-hailing service in Malaysia by fully integrating toll fares into every ride. This move makes Bolt the first platform in Malaysia to provide passengers and partner drivers with a seamless, transparent toll fare experience.
Until now, toll charges were typically calculated separately or added post-trip across the ride-hailing industry, often requiring manual reconciliation between drivers and passengers. Bolt’s toll integration marks a shift toward a simpler, more standardised fare experience.
With nearly 200 tolls operating nationwide and three different toll systems — open, closed, and mixed, toll management has long been a challenge for both riders and drivers. Around 30% of Bolt rides in Malaysia currently pass through at least one toll, highlighting the significance of this new feature in addressing a key operational pain point.
Through this update, passengers will now see the full fare, including any applicable tolls, clearly displayed upfront before confirming their ride. This offers greater pricing clarity and builds trust in the ride-hailing experience. For partner drivers, toll charges are automatically calculated and incorporated into the fare, eliminating manual tracking and streamlining the overall journey. This allows drivers to focus on delivering excellent service and maximising their earning potential without administrative distractions.

Afzan Lutfi, General Manager of Bolt Malaysia, said:
“Integrating toll fares directly into our ride calculations reflects our understanding of everyday driving challenges in Malaysia. We know that tolls are an essential part of the driving experience here, and by automating the process, we eliminate unnecessary guesswork for both partner drivers and passengers. At Bolt, we believe that greater transparency leads to better experiences and this feature is part of our wider commitment to making urban mobility more reliable, fair, and convenient for everyone. We look forward to rolling out more locally relevant innovations in the months ahead.”
Partner drivers have already seen the benefits on the ground.
“Before this, tracking tolls during busy hours was tricky. Now, everything is upfront and it saves time and avoids misunderstandings with passengers,” shared Rahimah Ismail, a Bolt partner driver from Klang Valley.
During a recent engagement session with partner drivers held during Bolt’s Raya Open House, the company also announced further enhancements coming soon — including improved pickup distance management and streamlined access to driver earnings.
These upgrades, developed directly from driver feedback, aim to further enhance platform efficiency and empower partner drivers with greater flexibility and control. Innovations like toll integration are part of Bolt’s broader mission to create cities built for people, not cars, by reducing everyday barriers in urban transportation and helping passengers and drivers move more efficiently.
Through continuous innovation and a commitment to putting people first, Bolt is shaping the future of ride-hailing in Malaysia. By delivering greater transparency, operational simplicity, and meaningful earning opportunities, Bolt continues to redefine what Malaysians can expect from a ride-hailing experience.
