If you’ve ever stepped outside and intended to do a very quick bit of gardening, only to realize that you have spent hours and you’re still not finished with what you want to do, then you are not alone.

Gardens have a way of growing much faster than you expect and it can turn small tasks into full on day projects before you even realize what is happening. The key is to make sure that you stay on top of it. Instead of spending more time you need to work smarter and not harder.

You should build a routine that will help to keep things manageable for you to start with a realistic plan. One of the biggest mistakes that many people make is trying to do everything at the same time.

It’s very easy for you to feel motivated at the start, but that energy will start to fade out very quickly when the work starts to feel extremely overwhelming. Instead, what you should do is break your garden up into sections and then focus on one area at a time. This will make the entire process feel a lot more achievable and will help you to see progress a lot more quickly.

Having a simple plan can turn a very stressful task into something that is a lot more manageable.

Keep up with small jobs regularly

Letting things build up turns a quick and tidy job into a major one. Spending a little time each week will prevent you from having to deal with a garden that is completely out of control.

Trimming, general maintenance and clearing do not have to take long when they are done consistently. It’s a delay that is going to create a lot of extra work later on.

Think of it as keeping things firmly in check instead of constantly trying to play catch up.

    Don’t underestimate overgrowth

Branches, shrubs and trees can all grow very fast especially during specific seasons of the year. What starts out as a very small growth will quickly spread and in the overall look of your space it can become crowded and cramped if it is not attended to.

Overgrowth can often block light, crowd out your other plants and make your garden feel a lot more cluttered. Keeping your eye on this from very early will help you to avoid having to do bigger tasks later on.

Use the right tools for the job

Trying to manage your garden with all the wrong tools can make everything seem much harder than it should be. Basic tools are going to be fine if you are doing light work, but for tougher tasks, you need something that is a little bit more effective.

For thicker branches or heavier trimming, using tools such as an electric chainsaw will help to save you a lot of time as well as effort. Instead of struggling through each of your cuts, you’ll be able to handle much larger jobs efficiently.

When you have the right tools, difficult tasks will become extremely manageable. Focus on efficiency, not perfection. It’s very easy for you to get caught up in trying to make everything look just right. In reality, having a well-maintained garden doesn’t mean that it’s flawless. It just needs to be under control.

What you should do is focus on clearing things that have become overgrown and keeping things tidy, instead of simply aiming for perfection. This kind of mindset is going to help you to get a lot more done in a lot less time.

Progress is much more important than achieving perfection.

Make your garden work for you

Your garden should be a space that you thoroughly enjoy. It should never be something that constantly feels like you are doing work. Selecting plants and layouts that are much easier to maintain can make a very big difference.

Low maintenance plants, clear pathways as well as organized layouts will all help to reduce the amount of effort that is required from you. Designing your space with all of this in mind will make everything a lot easier to handle in the long term.

    Set time limits for yourself

Instead of letting your garden take over your day, what you should do instead is set a time limit. Even one or two hours will usually be enough to make big progress. When you work within a set time frame, it’s going to help you to stay focused and stop burnout from happening.

It also makes it much easier for you to fit gardening into your routine without it being overwhelming.

    Stay consistent through the seasons

Different periods of the year will bring different challenges with it. Growth patterns will often change and certain tasks will become much more important depending on the season that you are in.

Staying consistent, even when things do not seem as if they are under control, will help you to avoid any spikes that may happen in your workload.

Consistency is what will keep everything manageable.

Know when to tackle bigger jobs

Sometimes a garden will need a lot more than simply maintenance. There will be moments when a deeper cleanup will become a necessity.

Recognizing when you need to tackle these bigger projects will allow you to reset your space and regular maintenance will become a lot easier.

Enjoy the results of your efforts

When you have your garden firmly under control, it will then become a space that you truly enjoy. Instead of having to constantly think about what you need to do, you’ll be able to relax and appreciate the results that you get.

This will make the effort much more worthwhile.

A smarter way to stay on top of your garden

Keeping your gardens under control should never take over your weekend. When you stay consistent, use all the right tools and focus on doing manageable tasks, you’ll be able to keep everything looking spectacular without feeling overwhelmed in any way. ‘

With just a little bit of effort done regularly as well as efficiently you see a lot of improvements
