A new scam call tactic known as “silent call” is causing growing concerns among Malaysians. Fraudsters exploit artificial intelligence (AI) to clone a victim’s voice to impersonate people they know into transferring money. The police have warned the public to remain highly alert when receiving calls where the caller remains silent for a few seconds.
With many Malaysians sharing their experiences on social media receiving such calls, HONOR is boosting its anti-scam technology on the Magic8 Pro with a new AI Voice Cloning Detection feature to detect AI generated voices. This feature is set to arrive via a software update in late December 2025.
Safeguarding the public from cloned voice and scam calls
The AI Voice Cloning Detection is the additional anti-scam feature on the HONOR Magic8 Pro apart from the existing AI Deepfake Detection. This feature analyses calls to detect cloned or synthesised voices. When anomalies are detected, users will receive a notification displaying the risk.
The need for such protection is crucial, The Rakyat Post reported a woman lost RM5,000 after falling victim to a voice clone of her employer, while the Malay Mail highlighted a travel agent who lost RM49,800 after a highly convincing call from someone who sounded exactly like her friend. By integrating AI Voice Cloning Detection, users can answer unknown numbers with significantly less anxiety.
Additionally, the HONOR Magic8 Pro will include AI Scam Number Detection to scan incoming calls against known scam databases and alerts users if a phone number has been flagged as suspicious. This additional layer of protection helps users identify potential scam attempts even before answering a call, reinforcing safer communication habits.
Reinventing video call safety: Detecting up to 8 faces at once
Apart from that, the HONOR Magic8 Pro’s upgraded AI Deepfake Detection safeguards users during video calls. This technology has been enhanced to screen up to eight people simultaneously during a video call to detect digitally altered faces.
Last year, the police investigated 454 fraud cases involving deepfake technology, with reported losses amounting to RM2.72 million, according to Malay Mail. With these advanced anti-scam detection features, the HONOR Magic8 Pro is positioned to significantly curb AI driven fraud across the country.
A global benchmark for privacy and security
HONOR’s commitment to integrating privacy and security into everyday devices has earned global recognition. Its built-in deepfake detection technology on HONOR’s smartphones has received the TIME Best Inventions 2025 Award for Privacy and Security. This accolade underscores the brand’s role in leading responsible AI innovation, ensuring that as digital threats evolve, consumers remain one step ahead of fraudsters.
