— UK Private Investigators (UKPI) today announced the launch of its new “Online Dating Security Audit” service, a timely initiative aimed at protecting individuals from the growing threat of AI-driven romance scams.
UKPI, a private investigator firm operating in London and other major cities in the UK, is warning the public that romance scams are becoming more sophisticated than ever. The organisation, which frequently deals in cases like these, says that more people are becoming victims of dating scams and fraud, especially in countries like Britain.

Romance scams are becoming more sophisticated in several ways. Scammers are increasingly using AI, making it difficult for victims to tell what’s real and what’s fake. Deep fake technology and voice cloning are able to impersonate people on video, scamming people out of hundreds of thousands of pounds in personal savings.
Fraudsters are also using AI-generated personas to create realistic profile pictures of individuals who do not exist. Images are not stolen from real social media accounts, so reverse image searches are impossible.
Large language models are also able to generate emotionally intelligent responses to victims’ messages. They allow a single scammer, whose primary language may not be English, to maintain hundreds of convincing conversations at the same time without any errors in language or grammar.
UKPI is warning that many scammers are playing the long game. Data from Barclays suggests that the average scammer spends around seven months in communication with their victim before asking for any money. They frequently use tactics like love bombing and constant attention early on, showering their targets with intense affection and grand declarations of love. Then, once trust is established, they pull away and begin emotional manipulation, getting their victim to “fix” the problem with money.
UKPI offers relationship investigation services. It’s able to provide online dating verification so that potential victims can learn more about their match online before meeting them in person or involving their finances.
The new Online Dating Security Audit, launching this month, is specifically designed to address the challenges posed by modern fraudsters.
