CastReader pairs personal voice cloning with AI Explain, bringing a familiar voice to supported reading experiences that combine spoken explanations and visual guidance. Both features are available now alongside full-text listening, giving readers separate choices about the voice they hear and whether they want an explanation or the original text.

The combination addresses two different parts of digital reading. Someone may want help approaching an unfamiliar report while also preferring the sound of their own voice or a voice shared by a loved one. Choosing a familiar sound does not require turning every document into a summary, and choosing an overview does not mean abandoning the source.

A Personal Voice Without Recording Every Passage

CastReader’s voice cloning allows readers to create a synthetic version of their own voice. Another living person’s voice requires that person to record and explicitly authorize it through the invitation or Voice Gift process. The product does not support recreating deceased voices.

Once available in a supported workflow, the authorized voice can narrate new material. A reader could choose their own voice for personal course notes or a voice shared by a family member for permitted reading material. Voice selection changes the narrator; the reader still chooses the text and whether to hear it in full or request an explanation.

Someone considering a personal voice could record their own sample in the available creation flow and use the fixed preview to listen for pronunciation and pacing. The preview offers a starting point for evaluating the synthetic sound. After signing in, readers can create a voice and hear that preview for free; applying the voice to their own material requires Pro.

Personal study notes offer one example of why the voice and reading choices remain separate. A student could listen to revised notes in their own voice before a class, then select a spoken explanation for a difficult passage when that workflow is supported. Familiar sound is a preference within the study session; it does not make the notes or the explanation more accurate.

Follow an Explanation, Then Return to the Detail

AI Explain pairs narration with notebook- or chalkboard-style visuals, using animated pen strokes to mark the current point. A student preparing for a seminar can begin with a paper’s main ideas, follow the emphasis on screen, and return to the sections that need closer attention.

When an explanation reaches an unfamiliar concept, the pen’s emphasis gives the listener a place to follow on screen. The reader can pause there and compare the explanation with the original wording. For a set of course notes, that may mean checking a definition or adding a question to discuss with an instructor.

With full-text listening, the student hears the notes in their original sequence. With AI Explain, the student can choose Overview, Standard or Deep according to how much explanation is needed. A brief outline may be enough to locate a topic for later review; a more detailed explanation may be useful when the relationship between two ideas is unclear. The original material remains the reference for checking what was written.

Following the free preview, a reader considering Pro can identify a short piece of their own material they would want to hear repeatedly, such as notes for an upcoming exam. The relevant test is whether a familiar narrator suits that reading task and, separately, whether an explanation would help. A reader reviewing definitions may prefer the full wording, while one approaching a new concept may choose the explanation.

Full-text listening remains available when the complete reasoning matters. Readers can hear supported material in its original sequence rather than treating an overview as a substitute for the argument, its evidence, and its qualifications. Important quotations and findings should still be checked in the original because AI explanations can make mistakes.

Using cloned voices for custom text, reading, or explanation requires Pro. Both monthly and annual Pro include 120 minutes of successfully generated cloned audio per membership month, at supported entry points.
