U Mobile, the data-centric and award-winning telco, today launched Fast Forward with U Mobile 5G live trial at Berjaya Times Square, enabling its customers to experience 5G first-hand at the mall where the company’s headquarters is based. Whilst 5G is still yet to be commercially rolled out, U Mobile has provisioned all its SIMs ready for 5G, so that their customers will be able to ‘fast forward’ into the future and get a taste of 5G from today until 31 December 2020.
Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile said, “U Mobile is all about unleashing the unlimited potential of our customers. We are constantly innovating and conducting various tests to find new ways to enhance our customers’ experience. Fast Forward with U Mobile 5G is just one such initiative where we are fast forwarding into the future to give our customers a chance to have real-world experience of 5G.”
He adds, “Fast Forward with U Mobile 5G also gives us a chance to gather key learnings so that we may ensure a better roll-out when 5G is commercially launched in Malaysia.”
U Mobile’s technology partner for Fast Forward with U Mobile 5G live trial is ZTE Corporation, the leading global provider of telecommunications, equipment and network solutions. The trial is currently live on 100Mhz block from 3.5Ghz (C-band) spectrum on NSA (Non-Stand Alone) 5G architecture.
For a start, U Mobile customers will be able to experience Fast Forward with U Mobile 5G using select smartphones and the telco is continuously working with mobile phone manufacturers so that more 5G capable models will be available to U Mobile customers soon.
Apart from this Fast Forward with U Mobile 5G live trial for U Mobile customers, over the past 12 months the telco has also conducted several use cases as part of 5G Demonstration Projects in verticals such as healthcare, virtual gaming and virtual tourism. For healthcare, U Mobile demonstrated remote consultation via partnerships with MEDCOM and DoctorOnCall, while the telco partnered with HTC Vive to demonstrate both virtual gaming and virtual tourism.
Currently, U Mobile has also ventured into use cases for the manufacturing sector by testing solutions for Smart A.I. Facial Recognition and Thermal Recognition at the manufacturing plant of Hotayi Electronic in Batu Kawan, Penang.
