On February 9 2022, Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy S22 series in Malaysia via the Galaxy Unpacked live stream. During the launch, I was quite excited to know what new features and hardware will be introduced with the new S22 series smartphones. And one month after the Unpacked event, I have the brand new Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus in my hands ready to be reviewed.
My first impression of the Galaxy S22 Plus is simple. It came in the very same box as the previous Galaxy S21 series and without the charger brick. Basically, the packaging is the same. I received the Phantom White version for the S22 Plus, the very same colour variant as what I received and reviewed for the Galaxy S21 last year.

It also has the exact same camera setup at the back but with a slightly flatter back portion. And the Galaxy S22 Plus feels a little bit squarish along the sides compared to a more rounded feel with the S21 series. All the other buttons and SIM tray layouts are the same as well, so I am quite familiar with where everything is located but I do want something new in the look department.
This time around, the Galaxy S22 series is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+ for the front display as well as the back panel. And the frame is fortified by a tougher armoured aluminium frame that is drop and scratch resistant.
The Galaxy S22 Plus has a 6.6” Dynamic AMOLED front display with 120Hz frame rate which to me is always gorgeous to look at. And it comes with Android 12 out-of-the-box with OneUI 4.1. I do receive an update after I have done all the setups so I let it update to the latest security version for better stability.

For the Malaysian and probably other SEA regions, the Galaxy S22 series is and will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset instead of the EU version Exynos 2200 chipset. The S22 Plus comes with 8GB of RAM that goes along with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage and it doesn’t come with an external card slot. If you want a larger storage and more RAM, you can opt for the Galaxy S22 Ultra version.
To power up the device, the Galaxy S22 Plus has a 4500mAh battery capacity which lasted up to two days for me on my initial use. I’ve yet to fully test it out with games and other multi-tasking stuffs but that will be for my full review in 2 weeks time.

Having said all that, now it is time for me to put the new Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus in full test. I will be using it as my daily driver and from then on, I will take note of the pros and cons of owning the device. But so far, it has been really awesome!
Come back here in two weeks to read the full review. Meanwhile, watch the unboxing video of the Galaxy S22 Plus I did on TikTok below:
