U Mobile, the award-winning mobile and digital services provider, and TIME dotCom (Time), one of Malaysia’s leading telecommunications providers, have established a strategic partnership in anticipation of the accelerated deployment of U Mobile’s 5G network under the government’s dual network model.
This partnership will see U Mobile tap into Time’s extensive fibre backhaul network to prepare for its rollout of the second 5G network. Through this collaboration, U Mobile further strengthens its ability to ensure a superior 5G experience that is highly reliable, supports massive capacity and delivers ultra-fast speeds.
Under this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), U Mobile and Time will work together to develop backhaul customised solutions to meet U Mobile’s 5G deployment strategy and technical requirements. Both parties will work to develop and implement processes and integration strategies to optimise network compatibility and produce high performance for all users, from consumers, enterprises, to public sectors.
This MoU between U Mobile and Time will not just centre on technical solutions; both parties will explore additional initiatives that leverage respective strengths and resources. These initiatives aim to promote and showcase 5G applications and use cases across various verticals, encouraging 5G adoption by demonstrating the transformative power of 5G.
“U Mobile has had a long-standing relationship with Time and we are delighted to deepen our cooperation by partnering in anticipation of the accelerated deployment of U Mobile’s 5G network under the government’s dual network model. By leveraging on Time’s extensive fibre backhaul network, U Mobile is not only able to expedite coverage of 5G across Malaysia, we will also be able to deliver a 5G network that features high availability, good resiliency, ultra-low latency and high bandwidth. These performance traits will benefit all users but are especially critical to enable reliable automation and IoT applications across industries,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, CTO of U Mobile.
“Time’s triple-certified MEF 3.0 network has been built to be reliable and resilient enough to cater to the backhaul capacity demands of 5G networks and is robust enough to support enhanced connectivity and the development of IoT ecosystems for smarter homes, cities and industries,” said Ganesh Sivasamboo, EVP of Wholesale at Time. U Mobile currently leverages Time’s fibre infrastructure footprint to expand availability of its U Home Fibre product to over 1 million more homes, especially those in high-rise buildings along the Western coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
