    • U Mobile launched the Digital School initiative to enhance digital adoption in education sector.
    • The first stage of Digital School is Projek Rintis: Cashless Ecosystems for Public Schools, focused on promoting digital inclusion and increasing financial literacy through a digital payment platform.
    • The initiative benefits students, parents, teachers, and school administrators by digitising operations and promoting good money management habits.

U Mobile today unveiled Digital School, an initiative focused on bringing the benefits of digitalisation to education institutions.  Under U Mobile Digital School, the company aims to accelerate digital adoption and uplift the education sector by developing and introducing a range of services and solutions such as cashless payments, digital attendance taking and security tracking, AI platforms for learning, advanced TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) courses and more to education institutions.

As the first stage of this initiative, U Mobile has collaborated with four selected Malaysian government schools to roll out Projek Rintis: Cashless Ecosystems for Public Schools, which is focused on increasing financial literacy and smart money management through a digital payment platform.

This fintech solution will enable public school students to perform cashless transactions in their schools, such as paying for meals at the canteen or purchasing items at the school co-op shop and bookstore. These day-to-day digital interactions will encourage students to be well equipped to navigate the digital economy.

For parents, they will be able to monitor their children’s expenditure, giving them the insights to instil good money management habits from a young age. This digital ecosystem will also bring about benefits to school administrators, teachers and school partners as they will be able to make and receive cashless payments, making the process more seamless and efficient, and streamlining operations.

“U Mobile, in our quest to be Malaysia’s favourite digital services provider, is very excited to be accelerating digitalisation in education vertical through our Digital School pillar. In line with the government’s ambition to transition the nation into a digitally enabled and technology driven society, we are delighted to be able to roll out Projek Rintis: Cashless Ecosystems for Public Schools under our Digital School pillar. As a Malaysian company, we believe we can play a critical role in promoting digitalisation for the next generation. Apart from schools, U Mobile is always exploring the potential of building beneficial ecosystems across various communities. We believe our latest digital school ecosystem will help shape the future talent of Malaysia to leverage opportunities to thrive in the digital economy,” said Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile.

The launch of Projek Rintis: Cashless Ecosystems for Public Schools today was officiated by YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications. The cashless payment ecosystem that is being implemented in schools is powered by Vircle, U Mobile’s technology partner.
