Quantum Business Dynamics warns that local businesses without independent online visibility risk being left behind as political and structural change creates marketing uncertainty across East and West Sussex
— County council elections across East and West Sussex on 7 May 2026 mark the start of the most turbulent period of local governance the region has seen in over fifty years. With both councils expected to change political control and reorganisation into new unitary authorities confirmed for 2028, Sussex businesses face prolonged structural uncertainty — one that Brighton and Hove marketing consultancy Quantum Business Dynamics argues makes independent digital visibility a business necessity.

A Four-Way Contest with No Clear Outcome
Thursday’s election is the first full contested vote for all 50 East Sussex and 70 West Sussex seats since 2021. Both Conservative-controlled councils face simultaneous challenges from Reform UK, the Liberal Democrats, and a resurgent Green Party already controlling Hastings, Lewes and Wealden. By the government’s own admission, these are almost certainly the last elections before the current councils are abolished.
Governance in Flux Until 2028
Whoever wins on 8 May 2026 governs on borrowed time. Shadow unitary authority elections follow in 2027, with current councils abolished from April 2028. A Sussex-wide elected mayor is expected the same year, holding strategic powers over transport, housing, skills, employment and economic development.
The structure of these new authorities remains unresolved. The Secretary of State rejected all four reorganisation proposals submitted by Sussex councils in March 2026, citing viability concerns, and announced further consultation after the May elections. Businesses across Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Eastbourne, Hastings and Crawley now face at least two years in which the identity, priorities and spending decisions of their local authority remain genuinely unclear.
Quantifiable Risk for Local Businesses
George Ogunsiji, founder of Quantum Business Dynamics, argues the reorganisation period creates specific risk for businesses reliant on council directories, local authority partnerships, or area-specific online profiles likely to become redundant as boundaries and naming conventions change.
“Sussex businesses are heading into a period where the councils they have built relationships with may not exist in their current form within two years,” said Ogunsiji. “Business directories, economic development contacts, council marketing partnerships — all of these sit within structures actively being dismantled.”
The Hybrandr™ Response
Quantum Business Dynamics’ Hybrandr™ service distributes content across more than 300 third-party platforms, building consistent name, address and phone citations that maintain search visibility independently of local government structure. Unlike paid advertising or council-linked directories, it builds a distributed foundation of digital authority that compounds over time. Current clients have recorded organic traffic increases of 300 per cent and return on spend exceeding 10x within ten months.
“The political situation in Sussex illustrates something that applies to every local business at all times: you cannot build your marketing on foundations you do not control,” Ogunsiji continued. “Hybrandr™ gives Sussex businesses a visibility foundation that belongs to them — one that will still be working in 2028 regardless of how many councils exist or who is running them.”
