— ESA Pet has announced the launch of its new online dog training course, designed to help dog owners build foundational obedience and reinforce appropriate behavior in public-facing environments such as restaurants, airports, airplanes, and other shared spaces.
The program is structured as a series of 11 short video modules that guide pet owners through essential obedience concepts and real-world conduct scenarios. The course is designed to be accessible and practical, requiring only basic tools such as a leash, treats, and consistent daily practice. Participants who complete the program receive a Certificate of Completion.
Growing Role of Dogs in Daily Life
The launch comes amid continued growth in dog ownership across the United States and a noticeable shift in how pets are integrated into everyday routines.
According to the American Pet Products Association’s (APPA) 2026 State of the Industry Report, dog ownership increased from 51% of U.S. households in 2024 to 53% in 2025, representing approximately 71 million households.
Further insights from the APPA Dog & Cat Report highlight changing lifestyle patterns among dog owners. More individuals are including their pets in daily activities such as errands, travel, and workplace environments. Among dog owners who travel with their pets, 74% reported flying with them in the past year—up from 68% in 2023.
As dogs become more present in shared and public environments, the importance of proper behavior—including leash control, calm demeanor, and responsiveness—continues to grow.
Addressing the Need for Real-World Training
ESA Pet’s newly launched course focuses on helping owners teach behavior standards suited for real-life public settings.
“Many owners want their dogs to be comfortable and well-mannered beyond the home,” said Sandra Carretero, Growth Director at ESA Pet. “This course was created to give owners practical training guidance they can apply consistently.”
While the program includes foundational obedience training, its primary emphasis is on reinforcing calm, appropriate behavior in environments that involve distractions, unfamiliar settings, and shared public access.
ESA Pet notes that the course is not intended to train psychiatric service dogs or to represent a dog as a service animal. Instead, it serves as a behavior-focused educational resource for pet owners seeking to improve their dog’s obedience, confidence, and public manners.
