— On June 11th, a symposium on the high-quality development of the construction industry in Lu, Ma, Hong Kong and Macao and the inheritance and development of Lu Ban culture was held in Tengzhou. Guests from Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Macao and other places, as well as representatives from the Shandong Construction Industry Association, Zaozhuang Mozi Research Center, Zaozhuang Vocational College of Science and Technology, Zaozhuang Construction Industry Association and Tengzhou Construction Industry Association attended the meeting.
This symposium, with the themes of “High-Quality Development of the Construction Industry” and “Inheritance and Development of Lu Ban Culture”, aims to leverage the strengths of all parties, promote cultural exchanges and mutual visits, academic research cooperation and resource sharing, further carry forward the spirit of Lu Ban, and facilitate the coordinated development of the regional construction industry.
Kang Fengxia, director of the Zaozhuang Mozi Research Center, said in her speech that Tengzhou, as the hometown of Lu Ban, has continuously held the Lu Ban Cultural Festival and the Mozi Lu Ban Academic Symposium, established the first batch of overseas “Ban · Mozi Academy” in Shandong Province, and promoted the cultural and creative product “Lu Ban Lock” at the United Nations. At present, the Lu Ban Memorial Hall has been upgraded and improved, and the construction of the Ancient Chinese Science and Technology Culture Experience Base is accelerating. By 2025, Tengzhou’s regional GDP will exceed 110 billion yuan, and it has been ranked as an advanced county in high-quality economic development in the province for six consecutive years. Compatriots from Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macao and other places have long made positive contributions to promoting Lu Ban’s achievements and inheriting woodworking skills. It is hoped that all parties will deepen cultural exchanges and resource sharing, jointly promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Lu Ban culture, and ensure that the spirit of craftsmanship is carried forward and passed down from generation to generation.
Ding Xinyi, deputy director of the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau of Zaozhuang City, said in his speech that Lu Ban is the ancestor of all trades and Lu Ban culture is an important part of China’s fine traditional culture. The spirit of Lu Ban can be summarized in eight words: “Dedication, precision, focus and innovation”, which is highly consistent with the value background required for current intelligent construction and green development. Since the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan, the construction industry in the province has achieved a total output value of 8.6 trillion yuan. Intelligent construction, prefabricated buildings and green buildings have become highlights of industrial transformation. We should promote the integration of Lu Ban culture into enterprises, construction sites and teams, allowing the spirit of craftsmanship to take root and sprout on the front line. We should cultivate people through culture and promote business development through culture, jointly writing a new chapter of “Qilu Construction”.
Ma Changzheng, the chairperson of the Shandong Provincial Construction and Building Materials Trade Union, said in his speech that Lu Ban is the progenitor of civil engineering craftsmen, and his character of striving for excellence and upholding tradition while innovating is in line with the spirit of craftsmanship in the new era. Shandong is a major province in the construction industry, with a total output value of nearly 2 trillion yuan by 2025, accounting for more than 7% of the national total. The trade union has been continuously building platforms for skills competitions and the cultivation of skilled workers, promoting the in-depth integration of traditional craftsmanship with new infrastructure, prefabricated buildings, green building materials, and smart construction. Zaozhuang has built the world’s largest Lu Ban Memorial Hall and created a distinctive base for cultivating skilled craftsmen. The provincial construction and building materials trade union will delve deeply into the contemporary connotations of Lu Ban culture, improve the system for cultivating skilled workers, focus on the reform of the construction of industrial workers’ teams, promote the “Qilu Construction” brand, and contribute to building a strong construction country.
During the exchange and discussion session, the representatives present engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as the inheritance and innovation of traditional craftsmanship, the transformation and upgrading of the construction industry, cross-regional industrial cooperation, the cultivation of skilled talents, and the integrated development of culture, tourism and construction. They put forward a number of suggestions that were both professional and forward-looking, and the on-site discussion was lively.
It is reported that the Malaysian Construction Industry Association, the Hong Kong Lu Ban Guangyuetang, and the Macao Shangqian Woodworking Union have been vigorously promoting and carrying forward the Lu Ban spirit in their respective regions for many years. They have made positive contributions in promoting Lu Ban’s achievements, spreading Lu Ban culture, and inheriting woodworking skills. The holding of this symposium has further deepened the communication and interaction between Shandong and Malaysia, Hong Kong and Macao of China in the fields of construction and culture.
