— The launch ceremony of the “Twin Silk Roads, Creations of Mountain and Sea” Jinjiang & Dunhuang 2026 International Cultural and Creative Design Competition was held today at the LILANZ ART CENTER in Jinjiang, Fujian Province. The event is jointly guided by Jinjiang Cultural, Sports and Tourism Economic Development Command and Dunhuang Cultural Industry Demonstration Park Management Committee, and co-organized by Fujian Jinjiang Cultural and Tourism Group Co., Ltd and Dunhuang Culture & Tourism Group Co., Ltd.

Two Silk Road Cities Join Hands Across Mountains and Seas
Jinjiang and Dunhuang occupy distinctive positions in the history of the Silk Road. Jinjiang is recognized as an important starting point of the Maritime Silk Road, while Dunhuang has long served as a key gateway along the land Silk Road. Though geographically distant, the two cities are closely bound by millennia-old cultural heritage of the Silk Road. Since establishing a sister-city relationship in July 2024, cooperation between Jinjiang and Dunhuang has continued to deepen. Using design as a bridge, the competition seeks to promote cultural exchange, facilitate the flow of creative resources between the two cities, and revitalizing Silk Road heritage through contemporary innovation. At the launch ceremony, Wang Yanqun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiuquan Municipal Committee and secretary of the Dunhuang Municipal Committee of the CPC, and Wang Mingyuan, secretary of the Jinjiang Municipal Party Committee of the CPC, attended and delivered speeches, jointly witnessing the official opening of the competition.

Think Tank Empowerment and Strategic Partnership Agreements Open New Opportunities
During the ceremony, Jinjiang officially announced the establishment of the Jinjiang Cultural and Creative Industry Development Think Tank, bringing together leading scholars and industry experts from China and abroad to provide intellectual support for the sustainable development of the city’s cultural sector.
In addition, Fujian Jinjiang Cultural and Tourism Group Co., Ltd. and Dunhuang Culture & Tourism Group Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation agreement, marking a new milestone in cultural tourism collaboration between the two cities and laying a solid foundation for future exchanges and joint projects.
The launch coincided with the ongoing “Blooming Hearts” Art Exhibition, where Minnan lanterns, Nanyin musical instruments, “Weaving Maid” and some other installations inspired by local folk culture created a vibrant cultural atmosphere that echoed the competition’s mission of interpreting local heritage through contemporary creative design.
The competition represents an important step in advancing the sister-city partnership between Jinjiang and Dunhuang and serves as an innovative platform for strengthening city branding through cultural and creative design.
Looking ahead, both cities will continue to unlock the value of their cultural resources, promote deeper integration between culture, tourism, and manufacturing, and breathe new life into centuries-old traditions through innovation. Together, they aim to contribute fresh momentum to cultural exchange and people-to-people connectivity under the Belt and Road Initiative.
