— From June 2 to 5, the 2026 Belt and Road Conference for Overseas Chinese Cooperation and Development, co-hosted by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (ACFROC), the People’s Government of Sichuan Province, and the People’s Government of Chongqing Municipality, opened in Chengdu. Themed “Gathering the Strength of the Overseas Chinese Community to Write a New Chapter of the Silk Road,” the conference brought together nearly 700 domestic and international guests from 120 countries and regions in Chengdu to discuss Silk Road cooperation and explore new opportunities for development.
Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Wang Linggui, Chairman of the ACFROC, pointed out that the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a major initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping with a vision for the future and destiny of humanity. It not only inherits and carries forward the ancient Silk Road spirit but also provides a Chinese solution for promoting the healthy development of economic globalization and improving the global governance system. He noted that overseas Chinese, residing in over 200 countries and regions worldwide, are not only inheritors of the ancient Silk Road spirit but also firsthand witnesses, participants, contributors, and beneficiaries of the BRI. He called on overseas Chinese to focus on the 15th Five-Year Plan and act as a “bridge and link” to boost new development in the high-quality joint building of the BRI; to closely align with high-standard opening-up and serve as “trailblazers” to help expand new space for the high-quality joint building of the BRI; and to deepen civilizational integration and act as “people-to-people envoys” to help present new prospects for the high-quality joint building of the BRI.
At the opening ceremony, the second batch of the Top Ten Cases of “Belt and Road Overseas Chinese Power” was released. These cases feature vivid practices that promote economic and trade exchanges and industrial cooperation between China and BRI partner countries, as well as heartwarming moments that enhance mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations and facilitate people-to-people bonds. They demonstrate the unique advantages and roles of overseas Chinese and Chinese-funded enterprises in the joint building of the BRI.
During the conference, four thematic events were held focusing on four dimensions: economy and trade, talent, culture, and youth. These included the “Overseas Chinese Assisting Thousands of Enterprises and Ten Thousand Products in Going Global” Economic and Trade Exchange, the “Overseas Chinese Assisting High-Quality Development” Intellectual Exchange, the “Overseas Chinese Assisting People-to-People Bonds • Beautiful China Shines” Cultural Exchange, and the “Belt and Road Overseas Chinese Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Exchange.” Additionally, some participating guests were organized to visit Sichuan, Chongqing, and Xinjiang along designated routes for on-site inspections and matchmaking.
