CheersYou International Consulting Highlights Growing Focus on Long-Term Admissions Planning

Consulting firm says students are beginning preparations earlier as international admissions criteria and career considerations evolve.

— International study-abroad applicants are increasingly treating university admissions as a longer-term undertaking rather than a single application cycle, according to CheersYou International Consulting, a New York-based education consulting firm that advises students applying to universities in the United States and other destinations. In the firm’s account of its own advising work, students and families are starting academic and extracurricular preparation earlier and weighing university choices alongside career direction well before applications come due.

That shift, on CheersYou’s reading, follows changes in how selective universities evaluate applicants. Grades and standardized-test scores remain necessary, but the firm does not consider them sufficient on their own to set strong candidates apart, and it notes that admissions requirements, visa rules, and labor-market demand continue to evolve across major destinations. CheersYou expects these factors to carry more weight over the next few years.

The firm’s own student outcomes reflect that longer horizon. As of July 2026, CheersYou had supported more than 8,700 students who collectively received over 28,000 university offers, from institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, and Australia. Those offers spanned fields including business, computer science, engineering, media, artificial intelligence, and the humanities and social sciences.

Its advising typically begins well before application materials are drafted. Advisers work with students on course selection, research, internships, competitions, and related activities intended to build toward a chosen field. From there, they help with application preparation, advising on personal statements and coordinating the recommendation process, and they support school selection using outcomes from earlier applicants with comparable backgrounds as a reference point. The advising team, according to the firm, includes staff with prior experience in overseas university admissions.

CheersYou has also taken part in wider industry discussion. It attended the Educational Testing Service (ETS) China Partner Conference, which addressed talent development and admissions trends in the age of AI, and it tracks changes to standardized tests including the TOEFL and GRE. The firm has separately described work relating to students’ overseas study, daily life, and early career in connection with Royal Bank of Canada, and it has taken part in a Hong Kong youth talent-development and exchange program, providing practical experience for participating students.

Looking ahead, CheersYou says it intends to keep developing resources that follow students from application planning through study abroad and into early career.
