ABES Ecosystems and ABES Foundation Seek Partners to Develop a Louisiana Education Demonstration

ABES Ecosystems and ABES Foundation seek partners to help define a proposed Louisiana demonstration connecting education, workforce preparation, and community development.

— ABES Ecosystems and ABES Foundation are seeking partners to help develop a proposed Louisiana demonstration connecting education, workforce preparation, and community development. According to founder Detrick White, the invitation is intended to bring together people and organizations that can help shape an early-stage concept into a practical model for testing.

White is seeking interest from school and district leaders, colleges and universities, municipalities, workforce organizations, employers, and community development partners. Environmental and design organizations are also among those he hopes to involve, particularly where their expertise connects learning with local places and community needs.

Through ABES Ecosystems and ABES Foundation, White’s work explores how educational institutions, employers, and communities might coordinate their efforts around learning and local opportunity. He identifies Anchor-Based Education Systems, or ABES, and the Education Operating System, or EdOS, as parts of that work, focused on designing and coordinating relationships among participating institutions.

The proposed demonstration remains at the concept stage. White says a pilot is not underway, and the partnership invitation is intended to help determine what a demonstration could involve before implementation. His earlier concept for St. Martinville, Louisiana, also remains conceptual, with no agreement or project update to announce.

White’s proposed first step is to bring a small group of interested partners together to define a practical Louisiana demonstration. That initial discussion would address what the demonstration would do, who would participate, how responsibilities would be shared, and what evidence could indicate whether it was working.

Potential contributions could include educational and workforce expertise, community relationships, institutional support, program resources, or access to a possible demonstration site. White also welcomes discussions about funding or sponsorship once the work has been defined. The invitation therefore extends to organizations able to contribute knowledge, relationships, or practical resources as the concept develops.

White grounds the proposal in his view of education as living infrastructure. “Education is part of the infrastructure that connects people to one another, to meaningful work, to community life, and to the places where they live,” he says.

For the proposed demonstration, that perspective would guide discussions about how schools and other learning institutions could work with employers, colleges, and community assets. White hopes participating organizations would help identify practical connections between education and work while considering the needs of the community where a demonstration might take place.

He envisions a locally shaped approach. In White’s view, the priorities of a rural community may differ from those of a town with a larger commercial role. He wants prospective partners to consider local culture, existing institutions, and residents’ aspirations when discussing what a useful demonstration would look like.

Louisiana would be the initial focus of that development work. White is open to contributions from people and organizations elsewhere, while seeking to keep the first proposed demonstration grounded in Louisiana communities. A potential location would be part of the partnership discussions, alongside the resources and institutional participation needed to support it.

“The goal is to develop a testable model, not to claim that a pilot is already underway,” White says. Defining the work and agreeing on evidence would be part of preparing the concept for a possible demonstration. The current invitation does not establish a launch date or confirm participating organizations.

White’s broader aim is to explore whether closer coordination can make learning more connected to everyday life and strengthen the capacity of institutions and communities to support local opportunity. Those are goals for development and testing, rather than outcomes established by the proposed model.

“I hope to help develop and demonstrate a model that makes learning more connected to real life and strengthens the capacity of students, institutions, communities, and local economies to flourish together over time,” White says.

ABES Ecosystems and ABES Foundation’s immediate focus, according to White, is finding collaborators willing to help define that work. Interested school leaders, institutions, employers, municipalities, and other prospective partners are invited to contact White to explore a partnership, contribute expertise or resources, or discuss a possible Louisiana demonstration site.
