The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Season 5 (MPL-MY/SG S5) Malaysian qualifiers saw over 600 registered teams vie for two (2) slots in the upcoming Regular Season. With a US$100,000 prize pool for the taking, Orange Esports and Makan Cendol emerged as victors and will join the following directly invited teams:
- EVOS SG (Season 4’s Champion)
- Todak (Season 4’s first runner-up)
- Axis Esports (Season 4’s fourth place)
- Geek Fam (Season 3’s Champion, Season 4’s fifth/sixth place)
- Team Bosskurr (Season 4’s seventh/eighth place)
Orange Esports:
The first semi-final of the Malaysia qualifiers saw DarkHorse take on Orange Esports with both teams fielding relatively new squads. Orange Esports confidently won Game 1 in under nine (9) minutes but DarkHorse claimed a hard-fought Game 2 which lasted 21 minutes. However, Orange Esports regained their confidence and cleanly took Game 3.
Orange Esports’ roster includes Silo (MPL-MY/SG Season 2 Champion under Saiyan Reborn), Eren, Mom, Cakbu, Mal and Grengo. They are coached by HawkEye (formerly the manager of Saiyan Reborn during Season 2).
Makan Cendol:
The second semi-final was played out between Makan Cendol and Honey Juana Clan. Makan Cendol consisted of four players from MPL-MY/SG Season 4’s XPAX X-Assassins whereas Honey Juana Clan were an up-and-coming team. In Game 1, Makan Cendol soundly defeated their opponent thanks to excellent team fight coordination and experience.
Nevertheless, the underdogs pulled off a surprising win in the second game to bring the series to Game 3. In the final game, Makan Cendol regained their composure and in a systematic fashion, built up a sizeable gold and experience lead to claim victory.
Makan Cendol’s roster includes Artha, Raisyaa, Ax (MPL-MY/SG Season 2 Champion under Saiyan Reborn), SmoothJago, all of whom were formerly of XPAX X-Assassins in Seasons 3 and 4. Their squad welcomes MPL debutants Tacus and Cuckoo.
The upcoming Singapore qualifiers will determine which three (3) teams will secure their spots in the MPL-MY/SG Regular Season. The Singaporean qualifiers will be on 15-16 February, with the semi-finals and bronze match streamed live on Mobile Legends’ Facebook page.
