No person was involved in any of them. The company behind the x402 gateway says that is the whole point.
—
X Pay has settled more than 50,000 payments on Base since going live in September, and has closed a $1 million funding round to take the same infrastructure to more networks.
Not one of those payments involved a human at a checkout. Each was requested by software, priced by a server, signed by the client and settled in USDC, inside a single web request. The company is marking the milestone with a community giveaway of $50 across ten winners.

Why the number matters more than its size
Fifty thousand transactions is unremarkable next to card networks. What is different is who made them. An AI agent that plans a trip, reconciles a ledger or researches a market does not make one large purchase. It makes thousands of tiny ones, each worth a fraction of a cent, and card rails cannot clear any of them at a profit. The fixed cost of a card transaction is twenty to thirty cents, so selling a $0.002 API call on those rails loses money by two orders of magnitude.
That is why the internet learned to bundle. Subscriptions, prepaid credits, API keys with no ceiling on them. Every one of those is a workaround for a payment rail that cannot price small things.
What is running today
- Live on Base mainnet since 11 September 2026, with X Pay’s own x402 facilitator since 22 September
- A catalogue of 21 paid endpoints, priced from fractions of a cent to per task AI routes
- A merchant gateway, dashboard, payouts and receipts, charged at a flat 1% of settled volume
- Fully non-custodial, with merchants paid to their own wallets
- Activity independently verifiable on x402scan, the public explorer for the standard
“Fifty thousand payments sounds small until you notice that nobody was involved in any of them,” said Johnny Sluijmer, Chief Executive Officer of X Pay. “That is the part that is new, and it is why the volume curve looks nothing like a consumer product.”
The round
The $1 million round brings in DCI, Credit Scend, Skyland Ventures, Zerra Ventures, BigBull Capital, ERC20 Capital, EU Capital, Dubai Blockchain Lab and The Crypto Launchpad. Andy Cheung, former Chief Operating Officer of OKX and founder of K25.ai, has joined the company as an advisor.
The capital funds settlement on BNB Chain and Solana, an independent security review, developer tooling, the launch of the API marketplace, and compliance work in the European Union including preparation for MiCA.
