And so the 4th generation Flip and Fold were recently launched with much anticipation and excitement. I am one of the many tech enthusiasts who were looking forward to the launch to see what are the new features that were introduced on the new Samsung foldables.
I have with me the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 on review and I have been using it just over a week or so. So here are the previews of my first impressions with the new flippable device.
Quick Impressions
To be honest, the new Galaxy Z Flip4 looks almost identical to last years’ Galaxy Z Flip3. But if you have a Galaxy Z Flip3 in hand for comparison, you will notice some minor changes have been made to the design.
First of all, the hinge is a little smaller and does not protrude out from the edge as much. I do notice the thinner hinge this time and it feels better when flipping it open and close. It’s true what they say, the feeling of flipping the phone open and close is very satisfying.
The internals have been upgraded as well whereby the SoC is now using the latest and greatest of the Snapdragon series, namely the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 as opposed to the older Snapdragon 888 on the Galaxy Z Flip3, but still great nonetheless.
Maximum internal storage has been increased to 512GB as well to make it future proof. This puts the Galaxy Z Flip4 in the future plans for at least 4 years of promised software updates. But the base RAM starts from 8GB as most standard flagships nowadays. Honestly, 8GB is just about right in order to perform flawlessly especially for gaming.
Up to this point, there are 9 colour options to choose from with the additional option to customise your own colours and design with the Bespoke Edition. I received the Graphite colourway for the review unit and all I can say is, black is always beautiful.
There are not many changes in the camera department in terms of placement and design but the software improvements when using the Flex Mode are much better now. Camera sensors have been upgraded to absorb more light with enhanced OIS and VDIS. But I do notice significant improvements in the post image processing for low light shots. More on the camera performance in my full review.
So much more to explore on the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. I’m just sad that it still does not support Samsung DeX on the Flip side but only has it on the Fold series. Having DeX is one of the reasons why I love Samsung devices. It can easily turn the phone into a portable PC when connected to a monitor.
Since I still have more to test, I’ll just leave it up until here for now. More details will be in my full review in a few days time. And of course, more photos to capture too.
