AI can make the work better and the person less capable. The company’s free framework draws the line between AI help that builds capability and help that replaces it.

WINDSOR, Ontario, Oct. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In a randomized study, high school students who practiced math with a standard AI chatbot did 48% better on practice problems, then 17% worse on a later exam taken without it. Students given a version that offered hints instead of answers did about as well on the exam as those who practiced without AI.
Same technology, different outcomes. The difference was the design of the help.
Capably Human launched today to build the field that difference points to: Capability Fitness, the lifelong development and maintenance of the capabilities of the mind that enable people to reason and decide, learn, focus, create, and adapt.
“We became intentional about physical fitness once daily life stopped demanding it of us,” said Michael D. Lapico, Founder and CEO of Capably Human. “We are approaching that same moment with the mind.”
Its research library is free to everyone:
The Capability Fitness Framework (CH-F-001) draws one central distinction: support, help that leaves the meaningful work with the person, versus substitution, help that removes the effort through which capability is built.
The Capability Model (CH-M-001) maps the twenty-six skills most affected by how people work with AI, and names how handing each one to AI too early can replace the practice that builds it.
The Rules of Engagement Check (CH-I-001) is a one-page check anyone can run on a task before handing it to AI.
